Alaverdi Monastery stands as one of the most significant religious and cultural monuments in Georgia. Founded in the 6th century by the Assyrian monk Joseph Alaverdeli, the current cathedral was built in the early 11th century and rises to an impressive 50 meters. The monastery complex includes a winery where monks produce traditional qvevri wine, continuing a practice that has been maintained for centuries.
